What Are Socially Significant Behaviors?
These are behaviors that have long-term effects on a person’s life. These may include survival and daily living skills like eating with utensils, using the toilet, bathing and observing other hygiene practices, among others.
For behavioral therapists and analysts, the goal is to promote positive change in a person’s behavior and not the other way around. Apart from that, goals for target behaviors are also specific. For example, instead of making “good behavior” as a goal, they would focus on specific things like saying “thank you” or “excuse me” and allows the child to practice that behavior time and again until it is learned.
The sessions based on the needs of their clients and what kinds of activities and therapies the analyst thinks are best to address their clients’ condition. They can also teach parents and teachers about this so the child can continue learning at home and developing in other situations.
